May 1, 2008.

Public officials and invited guests assembled at a property overlooking
Crow's Nest to celebrate the dedication of a 1700-acre portion of the
peninsula.

The Stafford Board of Supervisors was represented by its chair, George
Schwartz (D-Falmouth) and by Paul Milde (R-Aquia), in whose district
Crow's Nest is found. Said Mr. Milde, "Even though we have
made a big step here today, we still have plenty of work ahead of us in
order to save this entire peninsula from development." |

John Mitchell of the Trust to Save Crow's Nest left,
presents a memento to long-time Crow's Nest supporter, Hal
Wiggins. During his comments, John Mitchell took a moment to thank
individual citizen activists--including some from Save Crow's Nest--for
their efforts. "These people never get mentioned," he
noted. "I can't have it that way; these people have to be
mentioned. These are the people in the trench and the people that
fought.... I thank them, I thank them, I thank them." |

Representatives
from Save Crow’s Nest—by far the largest and most vocal citizens
group advocating for the preservation of Crow’s Nest—were not
allowed to speak in the official dedication ceremony. But,
after the event, Save Crow's Nest volunteers presented Governor Tim
Kaine with a T-shirt. |
