ABOUT US

Who We Are

"Save Crow's Nest" is a non-partisan education and advocacy group working to preserve Crow’s Nest as a natural area park with public access for low-impact recreational and educational activities.  We are united in our opposition to any development in any part of Crow's Nest. We were organized in mid-January 2004 in response to the breakdown in negotiations to purchase Crow's Nest.  (See the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star stories about our formation and the breakdown in negotiations.)  Our diverse members include hunters, hikers, boaters, anglers, birdwatchers, and other conservationists; life-long residents and recent transplants.  Many of our members have been active for years in the effort to save Crow's Nest.

We are an all-volunteer organization.  Web site design and maintenance, legal assistance, research, and other services have been donated free of charge.  None of our members receive any payment for their efforts on behalf of the group.  As a result, 100% of donations made to "Save Crow's Nest" go toward paying material costs such as copying flyers, printing lawn signs, and acquiring server space for the web site.  (Please consider making a donation by sending a check, made out to "Save Crow's Nest," to: Save Crow's Nest, PO Box 78, Brooke, VA 22430-0075.)

We are a different organization than the Crow’s Nest Defense Fund LLC (CNDF), which was founded in late 2005 and focuses on legal work related to Crow’s Nest.  That organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group established to protect the natural and cultural resources on the Crow's Nest peninsula.  (Your can send tax-deductible contributions to: Crow’s Nest Defense Fund, LLC, PO Box 102, Brooke, VA 22430.)

We are also a different organization than the Trust for Crow's Nest, which has been working to save Crow's Nest for several years.  The Trust for Crow's Nest is a dedicated fund of the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust, a 501(c)(3) non-profit land trust.  The Trust was formed to raise funds to support operational and maintenance costs if Crow's Nest became a national wildlife refuge, and to purchase natural areas on the Crow's Nest peninsula.  The Trust's fundraising efforts are complementary to our own education and advocacy work.

This web site, savecrowsnest.org, is a mechanism for "Save Crow's Nest" to promote information about and engagement with the campaign to save Crow's Nest.  Our banner logo features a blue heron, the sort that can be found in the heron rookery at Crow's Nest.  It is just one of the many stunning natural features of Crow's Nest.  Learn about some of the other reasons to save Crow's Nest.

What are we doing?

"Save Crow's Nest" aims to educate the public about the importance of Crow's Nest and to build active and vocal public support for preserving the peninsula.  To that end, our actions include:
